Mount Kailash is one of the most respected places on Earth because Lord Shiva resides here. Shiva is the supreme god who creates, protects, and transforms the universe. Mount Kailash is located in the north-eastern direction, which is also the direction of Shree Kubera (treasurer of gods).
Geographically, it lies in Tibet at an altitude of 21778 feet, around 6638 meters above sea level. Mount Kailash is also the origin of four important rivers in Asia, including Brahmaputra, Sutej, Indus, and Karnaali (also known as Ghaghaara). Thousands of devotees visit Mount Kailash to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva. But, is Mahadeva present here? Let’s know the answer.

Signs of Lord Shiva’s presence at Mount Kailash
Creation of OM
The symbol of OM formed naturally by the deposition of snow on Mount Kailash is proof of Lord Shiva’s presence. A lot of freethinkers say it’s a mere coincidence. But, according to the devotees of Mahadeva, the impression of Om is not only a coincidence. The symbol is believed to be formed because lord shiva resides here.
None of the humans could ever climb mount Kailash
Multiple mountain climbers made attempts to reach the peak of Mt. Kailash, but none of them succeeded. So, this mountain is unexplored to date. Very rough weather, misleading traits, loss of directions, and fast ageing are some of the hindrances that stop even the most experienced trekkers.
According to Hinduism, all these problems arise because Mount Kailash is sacred. Human intervention disturbs Lord Shiva, his companion Goddess Parvati and Nandi Dev. Hence, Mahadev never allows anyone to reach it. Only a Tibetan Buddhist monk Milarepa was able to reach the peak in the 11th century. Apart from him, no one to date can do it.
Time travel
Mount Kailash’s atmosphere gives the feeling of rapid ageing. A group of Siberian mountaineers experienced ageing once they started climbing Mount Kailash. Also, a lot of pilgrims and trekkers state that they have noticed a rapid growth in their hair and nails while trekking on this sacred mountain. According to a disputed theory, Mount Kailash is an energy vortex that accelerates ageing. However, it is also said that these problems are only to stop the trekker from climbing the mountain.
Unusual shape of the mountain
Russian scientists state that Mount Kailash is too flawless and might not be arisen due to natural occurrences. Some other scientists say that this mountain has striking similarities with the pyramids of Egypt.
According to Shiv Purana, when Kubera pleased Lord Shiva with his meditation, he started playing his damru. Its sound reached all three worlds and also brought Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma. When Kubera saw all three deities in front of him, he offered his seat to Lord Shiva. He also respected and worshipped Lord Vishnu and Brahma. Lord Shiva was highly pleased with Kubera’s devotion and hence he decided to stay. Then, Mahadev ordered Vishwakarma to construct his abode at Mount Kailash.
Two unique lakes
At the foot of Mount Kailash, there are two lakes, Mansarovar and Rakshas Tal.
Mount Kailash has two lakes at its bottom, Manasarovar and Rakshas Tal. Manasarovar has a spherical shape like the sun and the Rakshas Tal has a moon-like crescent shape. These two lakes represent positive and negative energies respectively. Another mysterious fact, Mansarovar has fresh water and Rakshas Tal contains salt water.
These two lakes show a unique geological phenomenon. They are next to each other. Still, Lake Manasarovar is calm, but Lake Rakshastal is generally tumultuous. There is no scientific proof for these differences.
As per the Hindu belief, the Manasarovar Lake is created by Lord Brahma. Hence, its water has the power to wash away any sins. So, all the religious people take a bath in this holy water when they visit Mount Kailash.
A feeling of magic and powerful sensations
Kailash Mansarovar parikrama gives you sheer energy and it might make you believe that there is some divine power around. You will feel powerful sensations throughout your body. You will feel as if every part of the mountain is trying to tell you something. A lot of times you see faces that are calling your name. You will also see a Nandi-like mountain and a sign of Swastika, which is considered a symbol of luck in Hinduism.
Conclusion
Chapter 182 of Matsya Purana says
Even NASA states that the face of Mahadev appears on Mt Kailash. Hence, we can believe that Lord Shiva resides here with his consort Parvati Mata and two sons Ganesh and Kartikeya.
Otherwise, Mount Everest is 8848 meters high and Mount Kailash is 6638 metres. Still, no one can climb Mt Kailasha and 6338 different people have climbed Mt Everest as of January 2023.
